The Ashes 2009 test 1- Match status at end of day 4

Australia sensing victory:
After 4 days of play on a pitch which seems to be on a slower side; Australia are in a position of control and made sure that there is only one team with a realistic chance of winning this match. At stumps on day 4; England were reeling at 20/2 with Andre strauss and Kevin peterson at the crease. England started their run chase badly after losing their opener Cook for 6 runs to Johnson and exactly 6 balls later Ravi Bopara was sent back to pavilion by Hilfenhaus; both lbw. England's chances of winning this match is almost ruled out, the best result they can hope for is a draw. Meanwhile Australia will be hoping to wrap up the next 8 wickets and take an early lead in the series.

Earlier in the day, Australia started with a 44 run lead; with Marcus North and Brad Haddin on the crease. Both North & Haddin played the waiting game and punished anything in their zone; adding 200 runs to the sixth wicket. North reached his second hundred of his three match career before lunch off 206 balls, Hadding reached his off 138 balls and become the forth batsman to make century for Australia. Ricky ponting declared with 45 mins of play remaining and 239 runs lead. With full day available , Australia are sensing victory.
